Itinerary:
In the morning, we will head to Kakheti, where we will turn south and drive off-road through desolated badlands. Eventually, a narrow dirt road will lead us to a massive sandstone cliff where carved in an endlessly morphing rock, lies abandoned Sabereebi – a series of cave churches, cells, and a refectory overlooking a waterless valley. The churches feature porches, each leading into a domed chamber. In some, visitors find remnants of superb frescoes from the ninth to tenth centuries. We will dedicate some time to exploring the site and enjoying a picnic lunch before heading back to our vehicle. Later on, time and weather permitting, we may drive to Kolagiri – another cave monastery in a location offering splendid views of the Iori River. Return to Tbilisi. The end of the tour.
