Armenia Lori Highlights Day Tour – 26 April
Let’s explore Armenia’s Lori region. We will visit three spectacular monasteries, including a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will also try local cuisine and enjoy nature. This tour requires PASSPORTS. Some of you may also need a visa. Please check the requirements online.

Itinerary:
In the morning, we will cross the Georgian-Armenian border and head to the famous, UNESCO-protected Haghpat Monastery. Described as a “masterpiece of religious architecture and a major center of learning in the Middle Ages”, Haghpat monastery, together with Sanahin Monastery, was placed in 1996 on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
Once we finish sightseeing in Haghpat we will stop for lunch in a local restaurant. Next, we will head to the 10th-century Sanahin Monastery. The name Sanahin translates as ‘this one is older than that one,’ presumably representing a claim to being an older monastery than the nearby Haghpat. The complex is home to numerous khachkars (stones with elaborate engravings representing a cross) and bishop gravesites.
Our last stop for today will be Akhtala – a 10th-century Armenian Apostolic monastery and fortress, which played a major role in protecting the north-western regions of Armenia and is among the most well-preserved in the country. The main church at the compound is famous for its highly artistic frescoes. Return to Tbilisi in the evening. The end of the tour.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE TOUR
MEETING TIME AND PLACE
We meet on 8:00 at Samaia Garden. Please be on time. In case of any delays, please inform your guide. Otherwise, the group will depart without you.
PASSPORTS & VISAS
Don’t forget to bring your passports. Otherwise, you will not be able to cross the border.
Some nationalities require a visa to enter Armenia. You can check here if you need one.
It is your responsibility to obtain all necessary documents.
WEATHER
Georgian weather changes often and fast. For this reason, it’s essential to follow the weather forecast closely. Here is the weather forecast. Please check it the night before the tour to be well prepared.
WHAT TO WEAR
Please wear clothes appropriate to the weather. We recommend warm clothes and comfortable walking shoes.
FOOD & DRINKS
Always make sure you have enough drinking water. 1.5–2 liters should be enough for the day. Please make sure to bring snacks – sandwiches, dried fruit, and sweets to eat during the tour. We will stop for lunch in a local restaurant, where you will be able to order a la carte.
OTHER ESSENTIAL ITEMS
If you are prone to motion sickness, please have medicine with you. If the day is rainy, make sure to bring a raincoat or an umbrella.
