Hike to Diklo fortress – 5 km (round-way), an altitude gain of 368 m.
Hike from Dartlo to Kvavlo – 3 km (round-way), altitude gain of 320 m.
Shorter walks around Omalo and other villages.

 

Itinerary:

Day 1
Tbilisi – Gombori Pass – Lechuri – Abano Pass – Shenako – Diklo – Omalo

We will depart Tbilisi very early in the morning. Our drive will take us over Gombori Pass to the foothills of the Great Caucasus. Once we reach the village of Lechuri, we will turn off the asphalt road and follow an unpaved mountain route towards Abano Pass – the highest driveable mountain pass in the Caucasus (2,826 m.a.s.l.). Prepare for an EXTREMELY scenic yet DIFFICULT ride. It will take us a minimum of 3 hours to climb to the top of the pass and another 2 or 3 hours to reach our guesthouse. Upon arrival in Tusheti, we will head to our guesthouse in Omalo before exploring the area. e will visit the picturesque St. George Church in Shenako village and hike to the ruins of the Diklo Fortress. 

 

Day 2
Dartlo – Kvavlo tower – Bochorda – Panorama

Today, We will explore fortified village of Dartlo, hike to the remote Kvavlo, and explore nearby settlements. You will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the local cuisine. You can go on a horse ride (optional) in the afternoon too. Goat Panorama – a scenic viewpoint from which lucky visitors might be able to spot wild mountain goats. Next, we will head to Bochorna – the highest settlement in Europe (2,345 m.a.s.l.).

 

Day 3
Omalo – Abano Pass – Lechuri – Tbilisi

Our last day in Tusheti will we will head back toward Tbilisi. Short breaks at scenic spots will help us to ease the ride. We will also stop to eat late lunch in a local restaurant. Return to Tbilisi late in the evening. The end of the tour.

WHAT TO WEAR
Please wear clothes appropriate to the weather. Bring layers. The days are warm in Tusheti, but the evenings get chilly. Additionally, you will cross Abano Pass at an altitude of 2826 m a.s.l. It gets cold up there. You will need touring shoes (or trail shoes/trekking shoes) may come in handy. Bring sun cream, hats, and sunglasses to protect from the sun. Wear comfortable walking/ sports shoes for the hikes. Just in case, you may also pack a raincoat.

ROAD TO TUSHETI
It’s long, bumpy, and requires many hours in the car. It may even get scary if it runs along a deep canyon. If you are prone to motion sickness, bring the meds and take them 1h before the ride. We will be taking plenty of stops to take photos and to rest. If you need to stop, let your guide know. We’ll stop as soon as they find a good place for that.

FOOD & DRINKS
Always make sure to have enough drinking water. 1.5-2 liters should be enough for Day 1. Also, make sure to bring snacks – sandwiches, dried fruit, and sweets for the road. They will help you maintain your energy levels. Amazing homemade Georgian cuisine is included in the price of the tour. We will eat them in your guesthouse. The price doesn’t cover lunches, but you may order them locally. There are no supermarkets in Tusheti. We will be eating homemade Georgian cuisine. Please let us know if you have food limitations well in advance. We will let you know to what degree we can accommodate you. The food choice is limited. If you are vegetarian, you cannot go without, please bring it with you.

BRING CASH
There are NO ATMs in Tusheti, and people accept only cash. Local costs up to 25- 65 GEL per person. You may also want to spend on local souvenirs (20-50 gel) or an optional horse ride.

OTHER
Do not expect to have mobile coverage everywhere. Due to motion sickness, please avoid using your phone. Bring a day pack to carry important items with you. Be prepared that people are conserving electric energy, which they mostly get from solar panels. You may experience issues with heaters, phones, and hot water, as well as washing machines, and other similar devices at home.

Itinerary:

Day 1
Tbilisi – Gomismta – Ozurgeti

We will leave Tbilisi early in the morning and drive to Ozurgeti municipality in Guria. It’s a long drive so we will take plenty of stops to stretch our legs. Our objective will be to reach Gomismta – a small mountain resort located on the northern slope of the Meskheti Range. Gomista lies at 2100 m.a.s.l. and is famous for its cloud views. In good weather, an ocean of clouds stretches below the village, spoiling visitors with breathtaking scenery. We will spend evening watching sunset there. at night we will go back to Ozurgeti town to our guesthouse.

 

Day 2
Gomismta – Tbilisi

In the morning after breakfast. we will head back to Tbilisi, again taking our time to stop and enjoy the landscapes. we might visit Zestaphoni waterfall or have a lunch stop on the way. Return to Tbilisi. The end of the trip.

Trail description: Most of the trail is flat and follows either a well-visible ground road or a comfortable hiking path. There are only two noticeable ascents on the way. But none of them is particularly hard.

 

Itinerary:

We leave Tbilisi early in the morning and drive along the Georgian Military Road, the historic route connecting Georgia with the North Caucasus, to Kobi. From here, we leave the asphalt road and continue to the starting point of our hike. The trail leads through a narrow mountain gorge into the wide and scenic Truso Valley, known for its colorful travertine formations, mineral springs, and the striking Abano Mineral Lake. Along the way, we pass abandoned villages, medieval towers, and remote monasteries, offering a glimpse into the valley’s rich history. Our destination is Zakagori Fortress, where we climb to the ruins for panoramic views over the valley before hiking back to our vehicles. We then drive back to Tbilisi, arriving in the evening. End of the tour.

Have you ever heard about Rtveli? It’s a traditional vintage and rural harvest holiday in Georgia accompanied by feasts and celebrations. It usually takes place from mid-September to mid-October. Join us on tour to help local winemakers pick up the grapes and to have some fun (with wine, of course)!

Itinerary:

We will leave Tbilisi in the morning and head to a cozy family winery in Kakheti. Upon arrival, we will meet our host. We will then head to the vineyards to start collecting grapes. The work is hard – grapes must be collected, and the juice must be squeezed out. In the past, winemakers and their families used to do that by stomping on the grapes with bare feet. Nowadays, machines are helping with processing the grapes. Once we are done with our work a time will come for the celebration with a a lovely homemade dinner made of traditional local dishes. Masterclass of Making Georgian food. Return to Tbilisi in the evening. The end of the tour.

Itinerary:

Day 1
Tbilisi – Datvisjvari Pass – Shatili – Anatori Burial Vaults

We will depart Tbilisi in the morning and head north to Khevsureti. Around noon our vehicle will reach Datvisjvari Pass – a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2689 m.a.s.l. The views from the top are among the most scenic in Georgia. From Datvisjvari Pass, we will descend towards Shatili, a historic highland village nested in the deep Arghuni Gorge. The settlement is a unique complex of fortified dwellings that served as a residential area and a fortress guarding the northeastern outskirts of the country. Later, we will continue to Anatori Burial Vaults – a fascinating memorial of Khevsuretian culture and beliefs. Overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 2
Mutso – Datvisjvari Pass – Tbilisi

We will start our day by exploring the historic village of Ardoti. Next, we will head to Mutso, another spectacular fortified settlement offering incredible history and views. We will hike up the hill for about 20–30 min (elevation gain of 115m) to get to the fortress. The hike is steep and challenging if you are out of shape, but the views are worth it. Once we finish sightseeing Mutso, we will start a picturesque drive back to Tbilisi. On the way, if we have enough time and energy, we can book a rafting tour on the Aragvi river (optional). Return to Tbilisi in the evening. The end of Khevsureti overnight tour.

The road to Khevsureti is difficult. It’s long, sometimes many hours in the car. It may even get scary as it runs along a deep canyon. If you are prone to motion sickness, bring the medicine and take it before the trip. We will be taking plenty of stops to take photos and to rest. If you need to stop, let your guide know. The drivers will stop as soon as they find a proper place for that.
