Modinakhe Fortress originally served as a residence for the Tsereteli family. It was captured by the Russian army in 1810 and abandoned afterward. In 1991 it was badly damaged by an earthquake. It’s now being rebuilt in an attempt to attract tourists to the town of Sachkhere.
