Dmanisi is home to the early medieval Dmanisi Sioni cathedral and the ruins of one of the most important towns and commercial centers in medieval Georgia. Recent excavations of Dmanisi have revealed also an extraordinary record of the earliest hominid dispersal beyond Africa (1,75 million years ago).
