Itinerary:

Day 1
Tbilisi – Borjomi  – Akhaltsikhe – Rabati Castle
We will leave Tbilisi early in the morning and head towards Akhaltsikhe – a cozy, small city in Georgia’s southwestern region of Samtskhe–Javakheti. On the way, we will stop in Borjomi to visit Borjomi Green monastery and hike a bit – stretch our legs. Upon arrival at Akhaltsikhe, we will explore Rabati Fortress – a reconstructed medieval castle with a Disney-like atmosphere. Dinner. Overnight in the guesthouse.

Day 2
Vardzia – Sapara Monastery – Tbilisi
In the morning, we will head to Vardzia Cave Monastery, built during the reign of Giorgi III and Tamar the Great. Later, we will drive to Sapara Monastery. Sapara has existed since the 9th century and had many important figures in Georgian ecclesiastical history among its monks. The complex includes St. Saba Church, famous for high-quality14th-century frescoes. In the afternoon, we will head back to Tbilisi. On the way, we will stop at a local restaurant for an early dinner. We will also visit lakes Saghamo and Paravani. Return to Tbilisi. The end of the tour.

How to prepare for the tour

MEETING TIME AND PLACE

We meet on at 9:00 in Samaia Garden.

Please be on time. In case of any delays, please inform your guide. Otherwise, the group will depart without you.

 

WEATHER

Georgian weather changes often and fast. For this reason, it's essential to follow the weather forecast closely.

Here is the weather forecast. Please check it the night before the tour to be well prepared.

 

WHAT TO WEAR

Please wear clothes appropriate to the weather. Bring warm clothes and raincoats just in case. Since we will be visiting a monastery, ladies will have to cover their heads and wear skirts. You can bring those items with you or use the communal ones that are usually provided by each temple. Men are obliged to wear long trousers.

 

FOOD & DRINKS

Always make sure you have enough drinking water. 1-1.5 liters should be enough. Make sure to bring snacks. They will help you maintain your energy throughout the day. Lunch stop might be late.  Additionally, we will also stop in the supermarket in the morning to make sure you have everything needed with you.

 

OTHER ESSENTIAL ITEMS

If you are prone to motion sickness, please have medicine with you. Bring a day pack to carry important items with you. You can also take a plane pillow to take a nap during the ride.
