Itinerary:
We will start our day by driving to and crossing the Georgian-Armenian border. Our goal for today will be to explore the very off-the-beaten-path Tavush region. First, we will stop in Acharkut village, where we will hike to the ruins of the 13th-century Arakelots Monastery. The hike is 6-7 km long round-way and follows an easy trail in a lovely forest.
From Acharkut, we will drive to Sarigyugh village to look at an impressive millennia-old plane tree and ruins of a medieval basilica. We will stop for lunch in a lovely local winery and finish our sightseeing with a visit to Makaravank, a stunning 10th-13th century church complex located on the slope of Paitatap Mountain. Return to Tbilisi in the evening. The end of the tour.
