This is private tour to conquer Georgia’s most famous peak under expert guidance and professional technical support. Adventure awaits!


Details:

  • Dates: Anytime from July to September
  • Duration: 5 days / 4 nights (+1 extra backup day)
  • Driving Distance: 300 km
  • Trip Difficulty: Hard
    • Route involves glacier walking and 100 meters of easy ice climbing.

    • High altitude, long distances, and physical endurance required.

    • Basic technical equipment: crampons, ice axe, ropes, carabiners.

  • Accommodation:

    • Day 1: Shared twin/double rooms in a guesthouse in Stepantsminda.

    • Day 2 onwards: Dormitory rooms at Meteo Station shelter (3600m). please note shelter has extremely basic situation. 

    • Option to stay outside the Meteo shelter if preferred (in case of poor conditions).

  • Pick-up: from your hotel.

Itinerary:

Day 1 | 

  • Destination: Tbilisi – Stepantsminda (1800 m.a.s.l.)

  • Details:

    • Depart Tbilisi and head to Stepantsminda.

    • Collect food supplies and recheck equipment.

    • Overnight in a guesthouse with dinner and breakfast.

Day 2 | 

  • Destination: Stepantsminda – Meteo Station Base Camp (2200 m.a.s.l. to 3600 m.a.s.l.)

  • Details:

    • Early breakfast in Stepantsminda.

    • Drive to Gergeti Holy Trinity Church.

    • Meet pack horses, load luggage, and start hiking toward Meteo Station.

    • Arrival at Meteo Shelter at Kazbegi Mountain around 15:00.

Day 3 | 

  • Destination: Meteo Station (3600 m.a.s.l. to 4000 m.a.s.l. and back)

  • Details:

    • Spend the day getting ready for the summit ascent.

    • Trek to 4000 m for acclimatization.

    • Equipment check and training end at 15:00.

    • Rest and relax for the day.

 

Day 4 | 

  • Summit day (from 3600 m.a.s.l. to 5054 m.a.s.l. and back)

  • Details:

    • Get up at 02:00 am and prepare for the final climb.

    • Reach the peak of Kazbegi Mountain, the most challenging part of the expedition.

    • Experience the most rewarding view as you stand on top of the world!

    • After conquering the peak, head back to Meteo shelter.

    • Expected arrival back at Meteo Shelter around 18:00.

 

Day 5 | 

  • Meteo Station – Stepantsminda – Tbilisi (from 3600 m.a.s.l. to 2200 m.a.s.l.)

  • Details:

    • In the morning, trek back to Stepantsminda.

    • Return to Tbilisi, marking the end of the expedition.

 

Day 6 | Mon 26 Aug

  • Backup Day

  • Details:

    • An extra day in case of difficult weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

  2. Professional Services: Services of professional mountaineering instructors and guides (Every 3 participants have 1 mountain guide).

  5. Pack Horses: To carry luggage to and from Meteo Base Camp.

Equipment You Need to HAVE:

  1. Mountaineering boots (not trekking boots, we wear trekking boots only until Meteo shelter. You can rent mountaineering boots at M Plus shop in Tbilisi)
  2. Two pairs of gloves (one light and one warm – winter ski gloves)
  3. Ski goggles or good sunglasses
  4. Headlamp – make sure it will last 5-6 hrs or have extra batteries
  5. Trekking poles (we use trekking poles until the last uphill where we switch them with an ice axe)
  6. Mountaineering jackets / Ski jacket
  7. Waterproof trousers / Ski trousers + leggings
  8. Thermal clothes
  9. Thermal socks
  10. Balaclava mask or something to fully cover your face
  11. Gaiters are very important to keep your feet dry
  12. Water bottle – 1.5 liter recommended
  13. Cooking pots and gas
  14. Two backpacks (one 50-liter or more for horses and make sure it’s fully covered to be safe on horse, they dont wrap it you have to prepare yourself. and one day pack for yourself)
  15. Personal first aid + Sunscreen
  16. Climbing or skiing helmet

Overview

Mount Ararat, standing at 5,137 m, is the highest peak in Türkiye. While not technically difficult, its biggest challenge is the altitude. The route is suitable for fit hikers experienced in trekking on rough, sometimes rocky terrain for 8–9 hours a day.

Summit day is approximately a 10-hour round trip, with snow on the last few hundred meters, requiring crampons. No advanced mountaineering gear is needed beyond that. Travelers should have trekking, camping, and backpacking experience, and be in good physical condition.

Itinerary

Day 1 — Tbilisi → Georgia–Turkey Border → Dogubayazit

  • Depart Tbilisi in the morning.

  • Cross the border near Kartsakhi Lake.

  • Continue to Dogubayazit (approx. 500 km), with stops to rest and enjoy the views.

  • Time to buy local Turkish SIM cards.

  • Hotel check-in and dinner with your local guides.

  • Overnight: Dogubayazit hotel (twin/double rooms).

 


Day 2 — Dogubayazit → First Base Camp

  • Breakfast at hotel.

  • Transfer to Mount Ararat trekking start point.

  • Load luggage onto pack horses and hike with personal backpacks.

  • Trek up to 3,200 m (First Base Camp) — approx. 4–5 hrs.

  • Set up tents and enjoy dinner.

  • Overnight: Camping at First Base Camp.

 

Day 3 — First Base Camp → Second Base Camp

  • Trek to 4,200 m (Second Base Camp) — approx. 3–4 hrs.

  • Afternoon free to relax, adjust equipment, and practice walking with crampons.

  • Prepare for summit day.

  • Overnight: Camping at Second Base Camp.


Day 4 — Summit Day

  • Early light breakfast.

  • Departure time decided based on weather conditions.

  • Climb duration: 7–8 hrs (may vary depending on group fitness).

  • Final section involves crossing an ice field and using crampons.

  • Reach the summit of Mount Ararat (5,037 m) around noon.

  • Descend to camp for dinner and rest.

  • Overnight: Camping at Second Base Camp.


Day 5 — Second Base Camp → Dogubayazit

  • Breakfast and pack-up.

  • Descend all day to Dogubayazit — clear downhill path.

  • Transfer to hotel for hot showers and rest.

  • Overnight: Dogubayazit hotel (twin/double rooms).


Day 6 — Dogubayazit → Tbilisi

  • Breakfast at hotel.

  • Drive back to Georgia with stops to enjoy nature and views.

  • Arrival in Tbilisi in the evening.

  • End of tour.


Day 7 — Backup Day

  • Reserved for use in case of bad weather or unforeseen circumstances.
