Hiking included: YES – We will walk a short distance on the “Rainbow” hills. There is no clear walking path, and the terrain consists of sand and gravel. We recommend wearing proper hiking shoes to avoid slipping.

 

Itinerary:

We will leave Tbilisi early in the morning and head to Mravaltskaro Reservoir. Mravaltskaro is famed for the colorful, rainbow-like hills surrounding it. We will also visit Natlismtsemeli Monastery. The complex was originally established at the end of the 7th century. Nowadays, it’s one of the main pilgrimage sites in the region.

Finally, we will reach David Lavra – the main section of David Gareja Monastery Complex, founded in the 6th century (Please be aware that the monastery is partly on the territory of Azerbaijan. Some parts are unavailable for sightseeing). Time and weather permitting, we will also stroll across the “Rainbow Hills” surrounding the shrine.

We will finish our trip with in a local restaurant in Udabno. The meal is NOT included in the price of the tour. You can order it a la carte. Return to Tbilisi. The end of the tour.

Georgian customs require a strict dress code in monasteries. Women are obliged to cover their heads and legs. We recommend bringing one or two scarves for that purpose. Otherwise, you will have to wear communal clothes. Men must wear long trousers.

It can be muddy at rainbow hills. Having extra shoes are comfortable. Bring raincoats.

Finally, we will visit the fascinating impressive 40-meter-high Katskhi Pillar, with a tiny hermitage built on top of it. While climbing to the top of the pillar is forbidden for secular people, the view of the church is one of the most iconic in Georgia. Itinerary:

Early in the morning, we will head to the Samtskhe-Javakheti region in southwest Georgia. Our destination will be the area of Lake Paravani and Ninotsminda.

Since the 19th century, this area has been home to Doukhobors – a Spiritual Christian ethnoreligious group exiled from the Russian empire for their nonorthodox beliefs. By the end of the 19th century, there were around 10,000 Doukhobors in Georgia. Many of them left the country following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

During this trip, Our local host will meet us and we will have an opportunity to look at the architecture Doukhobors left behind. We will visit the Doukhobor community center in Gorelovka village. It was once the house of Peter Kalmykov, son of Illarion Kalmykov (the first leader of the Doukhobors that settled in the area in 1841). We will also have lunch with a local family.

On the way back to Tbilisi,we will stop at Poka convert shop. Return to Tbilisi in the evening. The end of the tour.

The day will be busy – we will explore two Kist villages and visit a mosque and a felt workshop ( We recommend to have cash 20-30 gel and buy some amazing felt items made by grandma, this way we support her small business) . We will also visit several historical attractions in the area, such as the Pankisi Amphitheater. Old Church, Museum, Viewpoint panorama.

In the afternoon, we will enjoy lunch featuring delicious traditional Kist food. Time permitting, we may visit a local brewery making non-alcoholic beer made of mountain berries. Please wear clothes appropriate to the weather. Keep in mind that we will be visiting a Muslim community – dress modestly (no shorts or yoga pants). men – no shorts. no top t shirts.

FOOD & DRINKS
Always make sure you have enough drinking water. 1.5-2 liters should be enough for the day. Please make sure to bring snacks – sandwiches, dried fruit, and sweets. They will help you maintain your energy levels until lunch.

If you are prone to motion sickness, please have medicine with you. Bring a day pack to carry important items with you. Sun protection.

Rtveli – Grape Harvest Day Tour – rescheduled to 14 Sep

Have you ever heard about Rtveli? It’s a traditional vintage and rural harvest holiday in Georgia accompanied by feasts and celebrations. It usually takes place from mid-September to mid-October. Join us on tour to help local winemakers pick up the grapes and to have some fun (with wine, of course)!

 

Date: 13 Sep. 14 september
Duration: 1 day
Driving distance: Around 200-250 km
Trip difficulty: Easy
Pick-up: 09:00, Samaia Garden, Tbilisi
Drop-off: Around 19:00, Samaia Garden, Tbilisi (The arrival time will depend on the group’s speed and traffic)
Price: 220 GEL

 

Itinerary:

We will leave Tbilisi in the morning and head to a cozy family winery in Kakheti. Upon arrival, we will meet our host. We will then head to the vineyards to start collecting grapes. The work is hard – grapes must be collected, and the juice must be squeezed out. In the past, winemakers and their families used to do that by stomping on the grapes with bare feet. Nowadays, machines are helping with processing the grapes. Once we are done with our work a time will come for the celebration with a a lovely homemade dinner made of traditional local dishes. Masterclass of Making Georgian food. Return to Tbilisi in the evening. The end of the tour.

Georgian weather changes often and fast. For this reason, it’s essential to follow the weather forecast closely. Here is the weather forecast. Please check it the night before the tour to be well prepared.
